Le Grenier

Le Grenier appears to be the official retailer of 70’s Crockery. Full sets of brown and orange tea cups, sugar pots and tea jars interspersed with eclectic jewellery, retro furniture, exciting knick knacks and old record players in suitcases which are pretty useless but look cool. This shop probably survives in large part to people thinking that they will start their own collection of vintage clutter inspired by the immaculate style of this shop, so they start by purchasing one of the gaudy tea sets, but once they get it home and realise how badly it goes with dated Ikea furniture it gets stuck in a cupboard and never sees the light of day. Two years later said tea set ends up in a charity shop where it is bought by a similar posh second hand shop and the price put up by 1000% where it is then purchased by a younger generation of same people. It’s all part of the middle class circle of stuff. Please ignore my sarcasm I just couldn’t sleep as the person living above me was bouncing a tennis ball all night, which is really strange as I live on the top floor and there is no one who lives above me.

Dear another pissed off person, is this Oli? I’m guessing? Maybe a friend of Oli’s? Anyway I shall write as if you are Oli. I love everywhere I mention on my blog, that is the point of it. You hate me I get that, so you are unlikely to read what I have written about the concept of the whole thing, which is, I walk in somewhere, I take a look around and write up my impressions. I am allowed to do this. I am not, have never been and don’t want to be a journalist. I don’t give a damn about an autobiography of the owners, I just pay attention to what the place looks like and the calibre of the food or what it sells. I thought Vintage Emporium was lovely. I know lots of people who have gone to it because they trust me because of the other places I write about, I do not understand why everyone is so upset. Please tell me what is so offensive? I am sorry if you are not a private school kid with a trust fund, I was only joking. I have taken down the post because I see people trying to befriend me on facebook, I imagine to see who I am and it’s freaking me out. But more so because it’s a blog of my favourite places and I can assure you Vintage Emporium is no longer one of my favourite places.

I still think “Praline’s and Dick” would be a better name though.

Best Wishes
PB

p.s “….a real magazine, ‘Time out’..” I can’t tell if you are joking or not with this remark?

Dear Jess,
I do apologise for the offense caused, I wish you good luck with your project, as it is creative independent places like yours that make London special.

Kind regards
P x
