Snog

The fact that there aren’t any old people or that noone ever walks on the pavements or that they build wooden houses in heavily wooded (Eucalyptus, which emits a highly flammable vapour) areas which catch fire every summer are just a few of the strange things about LA. However the weirdest thing of all was ‘Pink Berry’ a frozen yogurt chain that only sold two flavours, vanilla and green tea. And it’s so popular. Anyway there is a similar thing here called ‘Snog’, the name alone adds to the weirdness. It’s the healthy version of ice cream and takes a bit of getting used to as it’s quite tart. You can get all kinds of healthy toppings from fresh fruit to granola and it’s open until 11pm, which in a city that closes at 6pm will probably fuel its success. It looks a bit like what I imagine a Japanese garden to look like, brightly coloured perspex cut into the shape of trees with a faux grass floor and a bright colour-changing ceiling with trippy white plastic bunnies in every corner.
