Rosie’s Café

Rosie’s is owned by Rosie, a late 20-something, and her cafe is lovely.  It has a lot of charm and feels like it is a huge labour of love for her. It doesn’t fit in at all with it’s surroundings (which is a good thing – see review of Franco Manca). I made the first trip to Rosie’s Café after reading a really nauseating article about it in The Observer newspaper food supplement.  Clearly written by one private school girl to another it describes the walls being covered in photographs of her friends, something I really hate. Nonetheless I thought it worth taking a look as there’s not much in Brixton I would want to see. Anyway they make the best coffee I have come across so far and there are only a few discreet pictures of their friends amongst the clutter of framed pictures and post cards. The walls are pleasingly bright red and stacked with all kinds of Italian jams, coffee and jars of stuff.  The food is great and they make all kinds of sandwiches to order (which sell out quick), all on bread baked by the pizza shop Franco Manca next door, and they do great breakfasts too. It’s tiny and very crowded and seems to be the most popular place around to come for lunch and breakfast – totally worth the trip down south.
