Tucked away on Portland Place and surrounded by overpriced “my rich husband is paying for it I’ve never had a job as daddy supported me before I got married”-type shops, Julie’s is relaxed and romantic with white table cloths, old church pews and stained glass windows. It has an old wooden bar, a bright conservatory and a nice outdoor area for good weather. Much favoured by locals, the food is exceptional (although it has to be said you don’t get much of it). It’s a great spot for breakfast too, with locals reading the newspaper and Sgt. Pepper playing in the background. I choose a sunny spot by the window and order my usual toast with butter, jam and a cappuccino. I feel like I live a charmed life (my two slices of toast cost more than three loaves of bread, so I’d say its pretty charmed).
