Have you ever ordered something so delicious from a restaurant that you refuse to ever try anything else on the menu when you come back? This would apply to the Gascon Mess at Comptoir Gascon. It’s their own take on Eton Mess but instead of strawberries with the meringue and cream, they add Armagnac-soaked dates and orange zest. The French really can get it so right. Along with a great wine selection the food here is amazing, classic French food just more interesting. The exposed brick and wall of wine bottles give it the semblance of a fashionable bistro tucked away in some alley off St. Germain.
