A home away from home with big comfy chairs (they probably salvaged from the street that a landlord couldn’t use due to the fire hazard). Its hidden in the Candid Arts Trust and you wouldn’t know it was there unless you knew it was there, which is it’s main attraction. Its fairly hippy looking with some hideous looking paintings but its a great place to go by yourself to read or write. It’s surrounded by art studios with grungy looking artists who wear corduroys and wool cardigans and don’t realise how deeply uncool it is to have a studio here and that Hackney Wick is the ONLY place to be. All the chairs come from the Royal Opera House when it was re-furbished (something I over heard) which certainly adds charm I think and invariably its totally empty. It stays open until 10pm which is a rare treat in London where cafes all seem to close at 6pm. You can get a glass of wine there in addition to all the usual fare coffee, cake etc.. etc
